CD markers or CD antigens, stands for cluster of differentiation markers, they are a group of special molecules on the surface of the cells. CD molecules are cell surface markers which are very useful for the identification and characterization of leukocytes and the different subpopulations of leukocytes. The flow cytometry technic allows the simultaneous detection of several CD markers on a single cell at the very same time. There are more than 300 types of CD molecules and are most useful for classifying the white blood cells (WBCs), which are the type of cell in the blood that protects us from infections.
